The newbuilds 35m x 7.80m plug-in hybrids, named “Dresden” and “Prag”, are built by Damen Shipyards for Flotte Hamburg, a subsidiary of HPA. EST-Floattech delivered its Safe by Design, DNV approved Green Orca 1050 modules with a total capacity of 315 kWh each. The plug-in hybrid enables up to four hours of fully electric and thus emission-free sailing through the port.
“Prag” will go into full-time charter with the Fire Service while “Dresden” will see multi-functional service with the HPA, Fire Service and other clients.
“Their propulsion technology represents the next step for us in the evolution of an environmentally-friendly fleet”.
Karsten Schönewald, Flotte Hamburg Managing Director
Most powerful boat of Europe in its kind
The two new builds are nothing but impressive! A compromise was made on the size of the vessel, impacting the water cannon capacity which was limited to 30,000 liters with a power capacity of a minute over 110m. But their smaller size means they can be used not just for fire-fighting but also to tackle other jobs like bridge inspection and maintenance, water supply, rescue and recovery, technical assistance and environmental protection.
Dresden and Prag draw 1.5m and will have room for 16 fire-fighting personnel.
Delivery by September 2021
The hulls of the two new ships were built at Damen’s facility in Kozle, Poland and are shipped to the Netherlands to add the superstructures and electrical systems. The keels for “Dresden”and “Prag” are undergoing final outfitting at Damen Shipyards in the Netherlands and are expected to go in operation by September 2021.
EST-Floattech is proud to add this project to its German portfolio. Account manager at EST says: “we had an outstanding cooperation with DAMEN Shipyards and system integrator van der Leun and are pleased to support Flotte Hamburgs mission to contribute to a zero-emission shipping industry”
