EST-Floattech Receives DNV Type Approval for Octopus LFP Battery System
EST-Floattech has received DNV Type Approval for its Octopus LFP battery system, a milestone in the company’s strategy to support all sorts of electric and hybrid vessels worldwide with different types of solutions that best fit the requirements of the sailing profiles. The approval confirms that the Octopus LFP system meets DNV’s high requirements for safety, reliability and performance, giving shipowners, shipyards and system integrators additional confidence when selecting battery technology for maritime applications.
The Octopus LFP battery system has been developed specifically for high-energy maritime applications. It is particularly suited for vessels with predictable operating profiles, such as ferries, inland shipping vessels and workboats that charge overnight and operate emission-free during the day. The technology is also well suited for hybrid offshore and special-purpose vessels seeking to reduce fuel consumption and emissions while maintaining operational flexibility.
Unlike early maritime battery projects that focused on relatively small installations, the industry is now moving towards multi-megawatt-hour systems capable of powering larger vessels for longer periods. The combination of improved energy density, long service life and enhanced safety characteristics has positioned Octopus LFP as an increasingly attractive option for these applications.
Since entering the maritime battery market, EST-Floattech has delivered more than 350 battery systems based on lithium-ion technology. With the addition of a type-approved LFP solution to its portfolio, the company expects adoption of maritime battery systems to accelerate further as shipowners prepare their fleets for future environmental requirements.
