EST-Floattech delivers batteries to 6 Viking Cruise longships

EST-Floattech is awarded by Kadlec & Brodlin, a specialized company with a wide range of competencies in the areas of ship electrics and electronics, ship navigation and communication systems for the electrification of 5 newbuild inland cruise ships for the fleet of Viking Line.

The vessels are built by German shipbuilder Neptun Werft and will sail under the names:

• Viking NB581 – MPS KARI
• Viking NB582 – MPS RADGRID
• Viking NB583 – MPS SKAGA
• Viking NB584 – MPS FJOGYN
• Viking River Cruises P771-NB 585 – MPS GYMIR
• Viking River Cruises P772-NB 586 – MPS EGDIR

All are each equipped with a hybrid propulsion system consisting of three diesel engines and a battery pack.

Neptun Werft said the batteries were installed on the newer vessels as alternatives to the diesel-powered emergency and auxiliary engines found on the older river cruise ships in Viking’s current fleet.

Thanks to the batteries passengers can enjoy their exploration and sailing to Scandinavia and Northern Europe in silence and comfort.
