Ferries & River Cruises

Passenger ferries, RoRo ferries and river cruises

The electrification of public transport

Electrification of ferries and river cruisers has become increasingly popular, also due to the requirements of local authorities. Nevertheless, huge progress has been made in reducing emissions. EST-Floattech has been active at the very beginning of the energy transition within this segment, starting with the delivery of the Energy Storage System (ESS) to the IJveer in Amsterdam. Subsequently, EST-Floattech has also provided the ESS for the next models of the IJveer, making it a total of seven GVB-ferries with EST-Floattech batteries on board.

Hybrid power is now a daily reality for ferries and river cruisers. Next to the seven IJveer ferries, there are ferries in Germany and Sweden that are now fully reliant on EST-Floattech’s ESS. In Germany the first new generation of hybrid ferries of 32m long and 8m wide, is the Gaarden. The electric ferry in Sweden is called Elvy, which is the first electric-powered in Gothenburg.

Hybrid or electric powered ferries and river cruisers ensure the crew and passengers enjoy sailing in comfortable silence, ferry owners are saving on fuel and maintenance expenses.
