Our Battery Control Unit

Fully integrated system

The compact Battery Control Unit (BCU) is responsible for communication between the various battery modules and the application’s power management. The BCU transforms the separate battery modules into a true Energy Storage System (ESS), as it were. This gives rise to a system fully integrated with the total power management system.

 

Active balancing between battery modules

The BCU monitors 18 battery modules of a maximum 189 kWh per string. The BCU ensures the quantity of energy stored between the various battery modules within the same string is distributed equally. This is our technological power: not only is the battery always fully operational, but the entire string as well. Since this means every module is loaded, the cycle life and life span are enhanced.

 

Safe and redundant

The safety of the BCU is also guaranteed. Just like the BMS, the BCU has also been made to be fully redundant. The check is performed by a fully software-controlled safety system in addition to a hardware-controlled safety system fully independent from this.

 

Tested and found to be safe

Our cells, modules and BMS have been fully tested. According to our strict safety philosophy, the entire safety system, including the BCU, also has to be tested and validated. We hereby consciously go one step further than is customary in practice. After all, only once the BCU has been tested and validated is the safety of your entire energy system guaranteed.
